Don't think so. I know you can drive to an MOT station if you've pre-booked it in for an MOT but very much doubt you can drive it anywhere else.

You could always book it in for a re-test then drive it to the garage. Not sure if you'd get away with it if you got stopped though.

Nope, you can drive it somewhere for repairs provided you have booked it into the garage before hand.

It explains that on the back of the failure sheet IIRC

Hmm, grey area

I'd say not

Personally I'd take it for MOT and see what it fails on.

Why take it somewhere where they might miss something the guy doing the mot picks up??

Here's one for you then, if and when a car fails it's MOT, technically you shouldn't be allowed to drive anywhere in it, i.e. to another garage or back home!! I know everyone does though!!

Wrong, the failure sheet has a box where if the tester feels the vehicle is dangerous to drive on the road he can put the reasons why.

It's perfectly legal to drive to and from an MOT test regardless of result and also legal to drive to a place for pre arranged MOT repairs.

It clearly states you can drive it to and from a test centre with a pre-booked appointment. You can also drive to a garage for pre-booked mot repairs. just book it into the garage for the repairs and drive it there!!

No, the exemption (to section 47 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 - offence of driving a vehicle on the road without a valid MOT) applies when

- travelling to or returing from a testing centre for the purposes of a pre-arranged MOT test

- travelling to, by prior arrangment, or returning from the place where the relevant work is to be carried out and an MOT has been refused

- towing a vehicle that has failed its MOT to the scrap yard...

ur best bet is to mot it first and see what it fails on then get the same garage to do the repairs and then give it a free retest, if u have the repairs done at one garage and mot it at another the other garage could fail it on things the first one missed and some mot'ers are stricter than others, jus been through this with my erst

cheers kev

Good job you guys dont live over here. The mot is run by the government,
and they are now in their 36th week of strike, with neither side showing any signs of backing down. On the plus side, things have gotten so bad they are now issuing exemption certificates which will last for 6 months.
My certificate is due next week so looking forward to driving my car again.
I havent driven it since last Summer. the government are now looking at privatising the mot the same as it is over with you guys!!
Once again the Irish cant agree on anything!!!
