Idle speeds
Just put my 500 engine back togther . But sounds like it is idling a bit slow what should a standerd engine be idling at ??

I'd set the base idle to about 1000rpm maybe a bit more, no lower than that really or the oil pressure will drop on idle!

ideed set it to 1000 rpm with a warm engine and idlecontrolvalve disconnected. Reconnect and you're done

850-900rpm.

Iv been told the idle speed control valves get very clogged up is it worth taking it off and cleaning it ????? as my sapph surges abit on tickover sometime but iv been told to run it on Optimax too

Mine's always idled around 1100, never thought it a problem??
