Default Re-gassing Air con

On my 306 the Air con cools the car down but doesnt make it cold! Does this mean the the Aircon might need re gassing? If so how much does it normally cost to do this?

Theres someone that comes on here that does it pretty cheap. Are you sure the pump and/or the fuses are ok?

By the way we'll be in your neck of the woods tonight Rhys

£ 90 is about right tbh , for that you should get a full drain down , vac out , pressure test , fresh oil , and a leak dye fitted

Slightly off topic, sorry, but I got told that they cant regas cars pre 93 as they have older style gas that is now illegal to use,is this true? also does anyone know how you tell if the air con is leaking?

it isnt cool when you turn it on
If you want to doubble check then you have to use the leak dye stuff.

If it's currently using the new gas it'll need to be converted to use the new stuff.

Might be a sensor going dicky, i had my rover done i got charged 80 quid, week later it went warm and stopped working, so had it checked again, the Gas was still in it, so i was told a sensor somewhere on the system has gone down, aint checked yet though.

the gas you are talking about is r12 and is now illegal to re gas with r12 good job ive got a bottle knocking about for pre 93 cars you can get a drop in gas which is r49 or you can have them retro fitted to use 134a which the new cars use most cars tend to loose a bit of gas when a/c not used for a while due to seals in the compressor drying out of oil rhys you ac sounds like its a bit sort of gas you can pressure test the system to see if it has any leaks common leaks are on the condenser or joints to the condenser a die can be put in the system and a ultra vilot light used to detect leak but then again what do i know iam only a airconditioning engineer

i had this prob with my '92 saff, but,
aparently there is an oil which mixes ok with the old oil & new gas,
with out the blatant need to change anything else, my car is being done next week, i shall know for deffo then
