Looks very much like a 16i cover, minus the FORD MOTORSPORT bit in the middle....

The filler cap is interesting, as the 16i covers had a screw cap filler cap, rather than puch on like the normal CVH covers. It wasn't a threaded screw cap tho, it was one of them ones you half turn and it locks into place.

When I got my 16i cover, the cap was missing, and Ford said you can't get em anymore. I tried a metal cap from a Nova 1.2 SOHC engine and it fitted perfectly. Quick polish up and it looked spot on aswell

Then a year later I found a Ford one at an Autojumble for a tenner

Seriously, Vauxhall Nova, SOHC engine (injection model I think) had a nice metal cap that fits PERFECTLY.

Power Engineering made these in fairly large batches around 1990. The aluminium does a slightly better job of damping the valve train noise than the thin steel of the standard cover. Unfortunately for PE jsut as they started selling them Ford sold off all their RS 16i covers at half the price PE were asking for their's so not may were sold which led PE to put them on offer to Performance Ford readers - if anyone can remember that far back. The old school PE lot like Mervyn had to spend hours machining the fins flat on those things.

Performance Ford tested an XR2 with one of PE's 'Power Pack' conversions. Came with a guaranteed 120bhp and the one in the mag had a yellow PE cam cover with the fins machined so they had silver tops - looked nice

Wasn't Dick involved with the Ford rally team, or, at least, worked at Boreham?

I remember, back in about 1992, I had to go there as part of developing an exhaust for my efi orion, as the brand I bought, didn't do an efi version... Went for the final fit up, had to go on the rollers, where the sump gasket pissed oil everywhere, which in turn buggered up a rolling road photoshoot for one of the Ford mags... Oops! Lol
