warm runnings......
boticed my cossie runs very warn when i'm using it.
about to fit new coolant hoses (shiny new roose jobbies) and was wondering if it was worth replacing the thermostat whil i'm at it.
its a 92 saff 4x4. what do these thermostats cost and are they hard to fit, where on the engine are they located?
will be flushing the system and running on 50/50 antifreeze/water
any advice apreciated

Not sure how much the thermostat housing is for an rs500 but for most cars its cheap as chips so another one to add to the trolly me thinks

Whatever you do don't put a stat in the car for a tenner, get yourself one from ford their about Ł40, while its out drill a small 2-3 mm hole in it because 4x4 stats are notourious from jamming shut, doing this will help if the stat ever jams shut by letting the coolant through, don't ever run a 4x4 cossie without a stat in place, stat housing is i think still available from ford front bit around Ł45 and back piece a bit more cost at around Ł140, changed mine recently, can't get the little bleed screw that sits in the front stat housing though so if yours strips its thread replace with a like item.

I suspect its the thermostat not fully opening causing it to run hot, had two do it on mine, as stated get one from ford or woodford, I think MSD also does them at a resonable price, to be honest I dont think you will get the 4x4 one from halfords etc anyway. Good luck.
so fords (woodford or msd) it is then
cheers guys
will drill the thermostat as thats what we do here at work, prevents airlocks and allows the systenm to bleed a little quicker
