All said and done about Ł16k ish (including PX of old car). Paid a little more than book as she has a BMW warranty until Jan 07 - and that is worth more than anything IMHO
approx 70k miles young, and most expensive repairs done already under warranty last year (hooray!!)
The smoked glass is taking a little getting used to though.
Car is filthy at the mo, so I will clean and post some nice photos in next couple of days
I am like a child again - it is pretty quick by my standards!!
Best bit about the car so far - Wheels are graphite finish, so look the same clean and dirty!!!!!! This almost makes up for the fact that Carbon Black is a b**ch to keep clean!!

Tricks are good thanks mate.
Definately bring it up to weston, you can take me out for a spin in it, ive not been in an E39 M5 for years and im sure it will remind me that they are even better than i remember!
When are you hoping to have the cossie back on the road?
Cheers Stu -
Currently building up a bit of experience with the car. Looking forward to doing a few miles in her. Building up a bit of bravery before switching off DSC!!!!!! LOL

awesome car.

Ref Weston - will do. Let me know when next meet is.
Ref Cossie, not sure yet. The bodywork is pretty significant. Going to be replacing all four doors (for good measure as have now sourced four completely rust free doors), both front wings, both sills, and both rear arches. Then going to paint complete in slightly different colour - I have now formally selected BMW CSL Grey!!! (Hope this isnt a mistake!)
Lots and lots of work to get all of the above done, and to boot, the differential decided to set the 'off-road' date by dying spectacularly week before last (DOH!). Not too unhappy, as I am pretty sure that the diff has basically not needed any work since she was first put on the car back when it was new!
At the same time, I am hoping to whip the engine out, and change the piston rings for good measure in an attempt to finally solve stupid smoking problem. Also sending Turbocharger back to Turbo Technics, as it has developed slight niggle on wastegate.
So not much to do. But not to worry, as it all has to be done by July 8th, when it goes back to the nurburgring.......... DOH!
I like a challenge.

Ouch @ the timescales on that one!
We're in weston ever sunday evening mate, so just pop up whenever suits you.
I'll (rather unusually) be in my cossie (replica) this weekend as ive got monday off work, might even have the S8 in it by then, so maybe interesting for you to see that?
I think the choice of colour will really suit a cossie, and seeing as you arent ever goign to sell it i dont think it matters thats its not "original" for the car
(thats how i justify it to myself anyway, as mine is a non-original colour as they never did 1.6GL sierras in yellow
)

Almost every car I looked at has had attention to both of the above
Other than the above, it is usual things really. They do tend to burn a bit of oil though (just like a frigging cossie!!). I have not had to top mine up yet, so unknown how much mine uses.
Other than the above, they tend to be prone to bush wear etc. which is unsurprising.

when i sell my e36 m3 convertible i will be after one of these, truly awsome car ,a proper wolf in sheeps clothing ,as for the warrenty its the best thing what came with mine ,used it allready ,new injecters, maf sensor, full diagnostic ,when i went to collect the car it was washed ,waxed ,and valleted they even waited until 6.45 for me to collect it ,pretty good service me thinks

I love these cars, one of my favourite all timers.
BUT, my mate who has his own garage and is a bit of a BMW / Porsche specialist said to steer clear as they are not as reliable as you would be led to believe.
But even so a truly awesome car. I love the original e28 M5 too. Ultra rare and fitted with a 286bhp 3.5 24v motor, a detuned version of the M1 engine. Book speed of 60 in 5.9 secs and 159mph tops, so no slouch for a big late 80's Beemer.

As for the E34 M5 - I have driven a few of these. Get a late one, and you have a serious piece of kit, and arguably even more of a wolf in sheeps clothing than the E39!!!!
Have now turned off DSC and seen the light! Now it feels fast LOL
Chip et others - I have spoken with wife, and permit has been stamped for Sunday evening at WSM. I will bring the beast!!
