Default Is there a distinct noise when using an external wastegate..

with a screamer pipe to vent the excess exhaust gas setup....?

Not talking about chatter or flutter, we all know where that comes from by now...

A car went past at ace cafe jap crap night and i heard someone say that the car has a screamer pipe setup. Thought because of the name SCEAMER PIPE it may have a distinct noise which allowed that person to identify the setup.

Mega loud unsilenced exhaust noise.
Sometimes makes a loud screaming or wooshing (well turbo whistle) noise.

Distinctly gets louder the moment the wastegate opens, can even hear that happen on certain internal wastegate cars (my Cossie used to).

Hard to explain, but I can easy tell.

It is simply unsilenced exhaust noise coming down a pipe that is normally very short and often out the side of the car.

The car will have a normal noise level until it blows the wastegate.

with the external wastegate rather than vent the gases through the exhaust as with an internal gate, they are vented straight out to atmosphere, creating the f@cking best sound ever

am i right in thinking that some screamer pipes are fed back into the exhaust system or am i thinking wrong? if they are...whats the advantages and disadvantages of this? is it better to have them vent straight into the atmosphere?

They not a screamer if fed back into the exhaust, they just a wastegate pipe then.

Advantage, massivley quieter.

Disadvantage, possible loss of power if your exhaust isnt big enough.

Sums it up. Changed from 3" to 3.5" exhaust to combat an exhaust restriction.

would this be at all power levels or just over a certain level?

The 3" is probably OK up to around 600bhp.

This video is fantastic for showing you a prime example of screamer pipe noise!

http://videos.streetfire.net/hottest...969A262AD1.htm

Wait till about 2mins20 or so onwards, basically all the in car stuff.

The car is well laggy so there is a long time when not on full boost, then you can tell exactly when full boost hits, often changes down a gear to get it on boost.

Mega sounding car once the screamer opens
