You call Omex expensive??!!

Try MoTeC and Autronic!!!

You thoroughly get what you pay for with management and skimping on it is along the same lines as skimping with engine internals IMO. Most people wouldn't do it.

Proberly has very basic software compared to Motec`s.

You could email them and ask for a demo of the mapping program, or any customer car projects.

It's not just about the mapping software. For a race car, it is acceptable to just have a very simple map that makes the best use of full-power, but for the road, there is a whole lot more that we have come to take for granted, even in our 15+ year-old Fords. Alot of these basic systems were created for race use.

These 'luxuries' include Idle control, cold start, warm up etc. These are all things that make the more expensive management systems worth their money IMO.

Even Omex 500 series is very primative by today's standards, I wouldn't have it on my car now. Regardless of power, I still expect to have reasonable drivability and fuel economy.

Your paying for the development and technology rather than the material bits that come in a box.

i fount this the other day seems to have good results and cheap

but as christian says you really need to find out how it behaves on normal drive and around town than just on power

I think you not understand that for people like me who are not specialist or experienced but want good system we have to trust professional advice. I do not know how any ecu behave so i ask.

If you sold all model of ecu and chip how could you know which is best for me? I am building 1.6 zetec 150-170 na track car what ecu should i use?

If it is 100% for track use, as in, it will be trailered to and from the track, then the features of the management system become less relevant if cost is an object.

That mtech site is a joke quite frankly, it reads about as accurately as an ebay advert for a "resisitor mod" etc

Q: What other management options do I have?
You could use other management solutions such as Emerald, DTA, Pectel, etc, but these systems can be very expensive to buy first of all (upwards of Ł900), as well as the initial mapping charge of around Ł800. These systems cannot be 'DIY' tuned, and must be taken to a rolling road each time you make a change to your engine. Our ECU's can be mapped at a rolling road if you wish, or you can do it yourself and have it 'tweaked' on the rollers later. This can result in HUGE savings.
WTF?
Ive mapped DTA and Emerald both in the last few weeks using just a basic laptop!

and as for their comment on how to tune it:

Q: How do I tune it?
You use the provided easy to use tuning software to develop your own tuning map. This is done by driving up and down the road with someone else adjusting the fueling to keep the 'dot on the line'. Basically, you have a dot moving up and down which represents the current engine state, i.e. RPM and Manifold Pressure, and you also have a bar indicating whether the mixture is rich or lean , .(This is read from a standard lambda sensor that you either already have, or you install into the exhaust.) and projected onto this you have a 3D graph. You simply use the arrow keys on your laptop to move the current point up and down until the fueling is 'stoic' i.e. not rich or lean. It really is that easy, and a very accurate map can be developed within a few hours. You an of course then take the car to rolling road to have your map fine tuned for even more power!

They make it sounds like 14.7:1 is perfect in all circumstances!

Sorry if its anyone off here, but going from that site, they dont really know what they are doing, fingers crossed though that its just the site thats rubbish and not the actually company as im quite a far of the MS concept as a whole.

Simon the one that says 'Megasquirt' on the board will be Megasquirt, I imagine!!! But I get your point.

There are lots of scenario's out there with stuff being rebranded.

Take AVO's non-adjustable range of dampers, which are infact KYB's.

Cost is issue for me this my first car i buy for Ł300. I uprate Ł500 on chassis then Ł1,000 engine build, i have maybe Ł1,500 budget left to spend on ecu. It is not 100% track use maybe 75%

I think Megasquirt is very underated. When you go through the list of features a lot of people are suprised.

Yes it does have idle control, Afterstart enrichment, cranking adjustment etc. Not only that, but the software is fully customisable including features such as Auto Tune your fuel map as you drive.

As for the MTech - Looks like they are rebadging the Megasquirt. Its exactly the same ECUs.
