How do you tighten motor bike spokes??????

Default How do you tighten motor bike spokes??????

ive got a dtr125 field bike and the rear wheel spokes have started to come loose just wondering if i can tighten them or does it need to be taken to a bike shop?

haven't a clue, but my old bmx just used to twist the spokes with some pliers

need a spoke key for a start, then just find the shit part of the rim which needs tightening work out which side the buckles on and tighten the other side.

well thats how i do them on the mountain bike and im guessing its the same philosophy for a moto-x bike too.

if that fails then take it to a shop

how much are the spoke keys?? will bike shops stock them or are they sumat i need to order

not too sure to be honest, u might get away with using a set of plyers as there motorbike spokes they be thicker than mtb ones. if not they should sell them in shops

Its like a little spanner for a motorbike. Just look online for a wheel building/straightning guide and follow it. principles are the same for motorbike and push bike but motorbike wheels are obviously alot harder to straighten as the rims are alot stronger.

When you do it only tighten up every third one this will stop the wheel from buckling, eventually after going round the rim 3 times all the spokes will be tight. Dont just tighten the loose one it will pull the rim out of line
