Tony's M.A.D is open for business....
Finally, last week I decided that there are enough bits in my collection to make it worth opening up Tony's M.A.D, which stands for Tony's Museum of Automotive Destruction
I have been steadily gathering pieces over the years. Some of which I have sold on, others I have kept for sentimental value. Other pieces have been lost, but fear not, for I have a strong feeling that they will be re- discovered in many years time by Tony Robinson on the Time Team.
Here is a selection of parts I have here that I could be bothered to take pictures of, with a brief description. Enjoy.
This is my first engine I had built. 250bhp and 265lbs/ft torque...

End result was a thrown rod. Niiiiice
Next up was my next engine, built a year later. Never got rolling roaded but we are quite sure it was 300+bhp...

End result here was a failed injector. Very pleased with the outcome of that.
Finally we have my latest exhibit...

Please look at the lack of lobes on the cam
This was meant to be replaced ages ago, before Bedford, but the money I had for that had to be spent on another gearbox. I have some of the pieces from the old one too.
That's it for now, but I reckon there could be some more pieces next week

my mrs old xr2i cam was that bad that one of the lobes was near ROUND lol, it started missing so i give it beens as i though it was just running rough anyway after 2 days of driving around i took the rocker cover off.
one of the tappets had completely colapsed hense the thing missing. changed the cam, tappets and gave the head an overhaul and it was fine.

CVH top ends are shite, end of story. They don't stand up too well to very hard driving either......heres the proof of that.......

Then I guess the pics don't do it justice. If you could see it, and saw how it performed before removal you would disagree.....

Tony yea - im just teasing, i know full well how shit they are
Was it noisey?
Keith - nice isn't it. Happened in 5th gear coming onto boost. I had a boost gauge in my hand - and Mike gently brought her on boost - didnt boot it. Gauge went over to 22psi, and then bang! The thing i remember - and im sure Mike does, is the noise it made as all the engine bits bounced off the floor, and all the steam through the bonnet vents.
The turbo survived, and is still going strong to this day, dispite the abuse it's had!

Just a tad
My whole engine sounds "noisey" anyway because of the sound the injectors make, and with a knackered cam it sounded like an old diesel lol. Not anymore though
