Im sure there are "stops" on the slam panel, screw out the N/S one a little so the bonnet has to sit higher...

While you are at it post up some reasonably close up pics of the sealant where the wing meeets front panel on both sides clearly showing the spot welds etc... the only reason it would actually be out of place is if it had a wing at some stage..

the stopper being the bit inside the bonnet that it rests on when it's closed, yeah?

i'll try adjusting that but then there still the bigger gap between the top of the side light and that quarter panel

Open your bonnet and take a picture of the area where the front wing meets front crossmember (?) The area above the headlight

just take a look at the rear edge of the wing in the door shut and see if the black vinyl wing sticker is there,it runs the full height of the wing, if not its had a new wing

We are talking about a road car here not a rally car mate, removal would mean drilling out old spots, then plug welding if re use old item, which will stand out a mile off on a car like this...

take a couple at this sort of distance, obviously focusing on the previously mentioned areas, take identical photos either side..

As you can see in my pics, the welds are in perfect symetry, if you have had a wing the probably wont be as good...

I can't see a problem in that. I mean it can be done so noone exept expert bodywork specialist looking for it will find that it was rewelded.

There is such a thing as FAKE spot welds. Which we use to use on concorse cars restorations and repairs useing secondhand panels.

This is where the hole of the original spot weld is used to attach the wing and then ground flush and a fake spot weld is put beside it.

Tool used is old spot weld tip used like a centre punch.
You can't tell the difference if done correctly.

Your car doesn't need a new wing just some massaging.
You may have a different gap at the top but whats it like at the bottom of side light it may just all need realigning.
Start with bonnet, then sidelight, grille and bumper
Few were perfect from FORDS.
