Default New car for the missus

this summer, my girlfriend will be investing in a new car.

budget 6-8k.

she wants something cool, coupe, not too big.

she's straying away from an mx-5 as theres not much reason to have a convertible in this weather.

i have suggested a racing puma, or a honda integra type-r

any other suggestions?

she REALLY wants an RX7 but i'm not too keen as they can be unreliable, and i dont know anything about the engines.

MR2 turbo.

She's welcome to drive mine and see what she thinks..........

Aside from that, the MX5's a cool car for the summer - why not?

My missus is about to sell her 51 plate Toyota MR2. Black with red leather! She's had it about 18 months now as a replacement for the MX5 she had before. Miles more comfy, pretty nippy and being a soft top she loves it! Even though its a convertible its not noisy, windy etc inside at all. Insurance is cheap as well!

Rx7 go to liverpool and get in a port auction.

Piss easy just make up your own business, make a headed paper and bish bash bosh gtr's for under 4 grand.

You would not belive the price of rx7's there trust me.

I am agreed with Rich aswel as MR2 turbos are a cool and driver rewarding car also not too fast that she will have an accident.

Chris
is that a new shape MR2 or an older one?

the mx-5 is a cracking car, but i think the novelty of a convertible will wear off.

a nice late 90's MR2 would be good and wont cost the earth

Thats the new shape one she has mate. She wants about 9500 for her but you can get them from about 7k. I've had a couple of the earlier MR2s (Rev3 turbo and Rev4 UK one) and although the rev3 turbo felt quicker it was as no where near nice to drive!

you wont feel the vvt kick in unlike vtec.

Rev3 turbos were a higher spec/more hp than the rev 2 and rev 1s. Thnk they started on an L plate. The rev 4s were the latest ones. I had an S plate rev4 t-bar. Performance wise the Uk rev4 was identical to a mk3Golf gti (16v) as a comparison.

Chris is right.

The Mk3 MR2 (the one he's referring to) is a fabulous car!

Didn't realise they coould be bought that cheap, but what a car for the money. Sure to stabilise in value as they've stopped making them now as well...

the mk3 mr2 is awesome little car, can be very quick too as it weighs under a ton and spirited handling. mk2 mx5 would be my choice though, least its got a boot

Elise's are as low as 8k if you properly look around though.

I was looking at buying one it needed a new nosecone (what it had) all it needed was painting and fitting and the car was 6k. Unrecorded but the salvage place sold it the day after I put a deposit down. Got the deposit back though.
