deffo your wishbone bushes away m8, had an xr2i 16v which did the same, pulling one way when i accelerate then the other when i let my foot off, when inspected both the inner bushes on two wisbones were none existant, when replaced was as good as new to drive!

The boot pop is probably a short on the switch, they are usually wired to the alternator so they cannot be opened while driving, so hence why when you turn off........it pops. Id expect you to have a flat battery though.
