alternator ????
hello i have been trying to find a new alternator for my fiesta rs turbo and found 1 off a 1.6 mk 3 fiesta will this work or is it no good or what about 1 off a s2 escort rs ??? if not then where can i get 1 from cheers
Why just out of interest are you looking to buy a new one, 99% of the time the alternator is put right for about £20 replacing consumable items on it. A new Diode/brush pack is all you usually need, about all that goes wrong with them.
I know what your saying mate, but you won't need to strip it. It should have a Bosch one on there, 70A IIRC, or maybe a 55A. 2 screws and the brush/diode pack assembly is removed. You could take it out on the car to check if the brushes are knackered, i bet you the inside brush is near on worn right down.

yep was told the bearings have gone n thats whats rattling away can be quite loud and annoying which is why iam gunna swap it,having a gearbox and new valve stem oil seals fitted to in aweek or so as its jumping out of gear grinding away in reverse and smoking like a pit miner
The gearbox is probably a result of the clutch being on its way out...........if the reverse gears are spinning they will always crunch as they don't have a synchro mesh, and jumping out of gear is usually a damaged synchro mesh, which is commonly caused by crunching gears.
Fair enough on the alternator then i assumed it wasn't working, make sure the belt isn't too tight that will knacker the bearings. Should be a better car when youve given it the TLC then
