My M3 3.0 non evo was definately better on juice than my stage 3 cossie, for the performance M3's are not bad mpg wise, mine would do about 30 mpg on a run no prob & about 25 mpg around town.

Every week i think about selling my 3dr cossie & getting another M3 but i can't bring myself to sell the cossie

A standard M3 is a lot nicer to drive than an old saph, just not as exciting though.

Best car I've ever had, love it and would never change it for a Cossie. You wont feel any smaller than when you drive the taxi

Here's my old one, i'd advise anyone to go & buy one, for the money as they are so cheap now they really are good value, even one with 130k miles will drive nice & tight, you won't have to piss around putting koni's & poly bushes & all that crap, they drive fine as they are.

I loved my cossie, but my m3 does all the cossie did without the worry (touch wood!) of it braking down. Ive had it 7 months and spent a few hundred on a sevice at the same stage of cossie ownership i had spent the best part of Ł2000. wouldnt go back........

Kim if you sell your saph & buy a M3 , after the intial outlay about Ł5500 for a decent 3.0, you'll have so much money compared to runnng & maintaining a cossie as you don't have to spend on them like cossie's.

I see where your coming from totally, I luv my cossie to pieces, and always wanted an esccos, but I must be getting old, coz all I want at the min, is something nice to drive around in, to me the cossies are a bit rough, which is why i went for one in the first place.

The only thing i think that is putting me off is the fact i know nothing about BMWs Im a ford girl always have been

I paid Ł4600 for mine, 130,000 miles full bmw history with 2 owners. After i bought it there was one even cheaper in avis blue that looks cool as, theres some bargins out there! insurance was cheaper than my cossie by loads.

TBH most at Ł5k are dogs, you'll find the odd good un if you're lucky, but in my experience most are snotters and the last thing you want is a bad M3. It'll cost more than a Cossie. Guy on the BM board spent 6k in just as many months on one. I paid more than twice that for the Evo and 2k more for my standard M3

They are out there for that money, but be prepared to see some crap and for that money buy an early L/M reg with decent miles and good history not a later one that's been trashed with moon miles and dodgy history

I would disagree you can find a decent 3.0 for about Ł5500 if you look, sure their will be a lot of shit about aswell,M3's are very hard to sell for some reason, i sold mine 2yrs ago to someone on this board for Ł6250 Lreg with silver leather 122k Full BMW hist, i had it for 3yrs & it was 100% reliable. If you buy one it must have Full Main dealer Hist & get one thats original, no silly after market spoilers or lights or been lowered, just standard.

I'm not saying you cant, but good ones do sell quick. I missed at least 4 because they were good and not the tat that is in the Trader week in week out. There's 2 I went to see months ago still for sale because they are basically crap. As you said, it's about finding the best one and not going for something that is well used and abused, as then you'll be saying M3s are shite and why did I buy one

look out for a 4 door one-they are much cheaper than the 2 door ones.i have just had one in and sold it immediately to a guy who had bought a cossie off me 2 weeks before.suppose that says something, doesnt it.must admit if i didnt have a cossie as a toy i would probably have an m3-seem bulletproof and sound nice.

4 doors are heavier and lesser looking hence the price, although they are where the bargains are

Forget about the mpg, with an M3 fuels the least of the costs !

'In my opinion' - They are not a car that can be run on a tight budget mine snaped its inlet cam and cost 8.5k to but right (BM prices but it was covered by them).

Very nice dailey drivers though and do everything very well.

PM me if you want the low down on running costs etc.

Cheers,

WD

PS : Just sold my 98 3.2 evo for 11k to the first viewer :

And the sad day :
