My 3dr has the original electric aerial which has always fully extended & retracted as it should, i haven't switched the stereo on for months & went to use the stereo yesterday as it was a long journey & the middle 2 sections of the aerial won't extend anymore so the reception is a bit poor.
Is the aerial knackered or is their anything i can check.

I had the same problem with mine when I had a 3dr.
I would turn the radio on until the ariel extended as much as it could then get a cloth and spray some WD40 on it.
I would then wipe the ariel with it.
Repeat a few times and the ariel should start to work normally.
This always worked for me and didn't seem to do any harm.

Thanks Terry, i have already tried that but only turned it on & off 3 or 4 times after spraying it, will give it another go tommrrow.

If you take ariel off car you can take it apart and clean it properly, but is a bit fiddly to do. But you may need to do this if wd40 don't work

 

Use some acaholic cleaner to clean the crap of then wd it

 

Managed to get one part free but theirs one more bit to free off before it fully extends to how it should. Think i'll have to remove aerial & dismantle to do it properly.

Does the square looking plastic trim panel that covers the elec aerial motor just pop off or do i need to unscrew the whole interior side trim panel in the boot to remove the aerial ?
