Default Cosworth HT LEADS advice needed Please!

Hi! I urgently need a new set of HT leads, currently running "Motorsport Blue 909" leads that I think are past their sell-by.

Been told that I'm best with original Ford items, but my local Ford garage says it'll take them a week to get them in

Really would like to get some leads tomorrow, Saturday. Am in North West, and have checked on Demon Tweeks site and they have some "megaleads" in stock http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/produc...T&pcode=MEG02B

Are these any good and if not then what leads do I need???

Stage 3 T34 1991 Sapphire BTW.

GGR - Ebay

Personally speaking, I wouldn't use anything other than the 909's or the Ford Beru leads.

Good link Billabong, just bought a set. Guess I'll have them early next week, that'll do, quicker than my local Ford garage anyway.

Are the 8.5mm Magnecor leads not trusted amongst most clued up Cosworth people?.
I ask this as I was thinking about getting a set of the Magnecor 8.5mm leads as they were red and would match my rocker cover
The Blue Ford Motorsport ones just won't go well with my Red Rocker cover and red Samco hoses

But if you guys recommend them , then I'll change my ways

Is it good to replace even the standard leads with a new set considering the set on my Sapphire are 18 years old now?.
What are the big differences between the standard black ones and the light blue Ford Motorsport leads chaps?

I just got a price for the original Black ones off a 2WD Sapphire, finnis code: 1663023 £50.89 each , man that's £200 for a whole set.
The Blue ford racing silicone race leads are only £120 for a set at Woodford Garage Motorsport.
Which do you guys prefer out of the two?.
Ohh and what are "beru" leads to a not so clued up Cosworth owner

Ohh I see, thanks Nick
Is the best and possibly the cheapest place to get a set of the original leads still a Ford parts place?.

I just sent the Woodford Garage lads an email about a price for the originla HT leads for a 2WD Sapphire.
This was the reply I recieved, can you guys see any problems with this setup?

Hi Ollie
Many thanks for your email
We can supply you genuine ford leads price £100.00 but they are 4wd ignition leads the only difference being the distributor cap which we can supply you to match the 4wd leads, these will then fit straight on. Cost of shipment £20.00. The 2wd leads are no longer available
Cost of shipment to New Zealand £20.00 hope this helps.

i got a couple of sets off ebay when i was still in germany for a good price. a seller that has loads of original ford parts on there new.

but i wouldn't bother again, i'm getting rid of the dizzy and going to small turbo escort cosworth coils that sit on 2 plugs and have short leads to their other wasted spark pairs

The fake 909 leads dont last long....Had loads of problems on cars and mates cars with these leads...

Standard Ford items appear to be the best and last longest.

what woodford are saying is right.

the 2wd had an angled dizzy cap and straight leads, and the 4x4 had a straight cap and angled leads (or vice versa).

i could sell you mine later on when i've done my conversion, but if i were you i wouldn't buy secondhand parts like that i would want new.

Cheers again Nick,

So best option if I want a new standard set is to just buy the 4x4 leads and replace my distributor cap?

To be correct, the non catalyst models had an angled cap and the catalyst models had a vertuical one.

Most problems with 909 loads stemmed from the fact the early non catalyst ones are 2 piece (OE are as well) and the 909 ones were never fully pushed home, so the joint corroded quickly. Obviously if WE fitted them they are still fine. lol

The catalyst leads are 1 piece anyway, and thats what we fit here, to ALL cars if teh customer agres to a new cap.

Can't remember what ones I fitted to ours, Bosch I think

Do not put 'mega leads' on anything! Grey S2 already had them on when bought it, one day it started missing like fook, one of the 'mega leads' had broken off of the spark plug end, they're not so mega

4WD leads plug into the top of the cap

2wd leads plug into the side so to speak

The ones listed above are 4wd
