right ive had no end of trouble with my fuel pump,

ive replaced the pump (still doesnt work)
ive replaced the spades on the pump(still doesnt work)

is there anything to stop me rewiring the fuel pump using a relay and a live feed from the ignition. so its running standalone.

Matt

you checked the inertia switch mate? sits down on the A pillar behind the little cover in the passenger side footwell, theres sometimes a hole in the cover you can reset it through. worth checking!

if not then yeah you can wire it like you said, ive wired mine like that in my zetec conversion.

you want a normal switching relay with the switchable live coming from the igntiion, then you need to wire the earth from the relay into the earth that goes into the ecu. if you look at the engine loom, between the engine and ECU there will be a bunch of 7 wires that come away from the main engine loom and plug into the car loom, the brown wire in this group is the one you want!

make sure you fuse it properly and wire it in through the inertia switch!

if you wire the live for the relay in fromthe ignition, whenever you turn off that live the relay will 'turn off'

try a connection straight to the fuel pump... i had a similar prob... it was the little black box in the fuel tank that 2 wires go in to, them come out of and connects to the pump...

If you have only changed the pump, i would guess its the "black box" Sean spoke about.
I changed my pump and have now bypassed that little box, as its only a signal suppression unit and will not affect safety.
