Mate of mine has an MG ZR 120. Wants to buy an induction kit more for the noise than anything else but doesnt know which one to choose. If he can get some performance gains albeit small ones then thats a bonus. In this respect which one would be the best buy? I have had no dealings with an MG before so thought maybe someone on here may know?

Going on my personal experience Pipercross are much louder than a K&N, had both on the XR3i and only had the K&B for a couple of days!

 

piperx are louder!

A quality filter that does just that. Filter. If you want noise and aren't concerned about your engine, take the filter off altogether!!

Who the fook you calling a Chav! Rich asked a question, I answered it, I dont go for noise over performance, plus when I had the 3i I was only 17/18!

 

cossierich330 get your mate to do some homework on it first, a lot of new cars don't work well with induction kits

Yes filter performance is more important than noise, except he isnt changing the exhaust or doing any more engine work. The bods on the MG website say that they experienced reductions in BHP when using an induction kit, hence the quest for noise

right how odd but i can help you.

the missus's sister asked me to sort her with an induction kit for her MG zr 120.

The first issue is what engine lay out you have, as some are different from others. and the listings on the net may list the wrong kit for that car.

the battery position is different for different models.

i looked at all the kits, cos i am sad like that, and came to the conclusion that the best kit by far is the k and n one.

wasnt cheap, 100 quid, ish, if i remember right. but fit is spot on.

have a look at the engine bay and tell me how its laid out, as some require the kit to sit close to the throttle and others go round a corner and sit next to the battery.

hardly - was answering the question, don't think he asked which filters better

 

ive got the zr 105.

i had some universal filter on it for a while. just bodged it on using some exhaust pipe tha fitted both the filter and the intake hose.
i didnt notice a difference in the power.
it did sound nice if u like that sort of thing. i always thought the 16v clios sounded good with induction kits and this was like a baby one of them.

but i personally cant stand the noise they make and soon had it ripped off and stuck the standard fiter back on.

as regards to the fitting of it, i cabled tied (staying true to my name) to the bottom part of the air box.
the air box splits in to, the bottom bit has the col air feed going in, and then the filter goes in, then the top which goes to the engine.
i removed the hose from the top part of the box and fixed that to the filter.
this let me use the standard air feed and fixing it to the bottom part of the air box actually worked well.

 

How did you work that out?
