Default IS MADROD's CAR DEAD---THE TRUTH

Well as far as TOTB3 is concerned almost, here's the saga.
The first trip in the car was to Zoo Motorsport & as soon as the car was started it was obvious there was a major exhaust blow.
Investigation on Monday last ,seemed to find the prob the fabricator had put a solid piece of metal , where Mark had asked for a flexi, it was wrapped so we didnt know. It went back & was all stripped down & corrected, the result it was just the same. A closer inspection reavealed the real prob, my mega bling manifold had all but broken in two, not cracked but broken.
We all agreed nothing we had done could have caused this, untill we remembered at the Dyno session in a desperate attempt to cut down on noise a silencer with a 10 foot extension was bolted to the wastegate flange & exit via the roof. maybe this caused it who Knows.
Today i took it back to the fabricator & we both agreed that in an effort to look mega bling design integrity & strength had been compromised.
Well it dont look bling anymore, the complete section near the wastegate has been changed & 3 large strengthening gussets welded in place.
Pictures have been taken & hopefully the design will be changed.
Got it back at 3-45pm today & Mark reassembled it & guess what prob solved. However it has lost us 2 days of progress & the car is far from finished. Tomorrow (friday) the car was due at Brunters ,but that aint going to happen. Mark has to finish off Leons Supra tomorrow morning & then straight back on mine ,Mark thinks it will be finished tomorrow, but i aint so sure & im sure work will be still going on Saturday, when Mark has also to finish off another compeditors car.
Said i would not run an untried car, but Mark will take all the his kit & finish it off on the day.

Believe me NEVER AGAIN & Mark has said the same.
Cheers Rod

Need 15"x 8" wheels et35 or close. 71/2" wide would be OK. have already got 15"X7" wide but they are marginal to fit 235/60/15 Drag radials.

Thanks Martin, but manifold prob has been solved today im sure, its just lost time thats causing the probs. Its mainly electrical things that need doing now, ECU functions, Turbosmart wiring & piping etc, Nitrous/WI have also to be sorted. Must be 50+ wires going to the ECU that aint joined up yet although only some essential functions will be wired in.
Then its finish off & tidy everything up. At the mo i have to join up wires to start the car . The wiring is usually my department but the car has been at Marks so cant get on with it , will be there tomorrow though.
fingers crossed.

Rod,

I hope you make it for Sunday.

On a more sour note you'll find tubular manifolds on a cossie engine are basically a no go and getting the design right from a durability aspect is VERY difficult. All the best in getting it sorted though.

All Tubular manifolds are hard to make durable, I have not made this one, But the Info has been passed on to the manufactor how to improve it.

Normal guage tube is NOT strong enough.

Mine is now 6mm wall as 2mm lasted about as long as the first violent application of the throttle!!

Sorry to put a downer on it but that manifold will crack again in less time than it takes to say "Is it cracked again?".

So you say but I already have my own Manifold for the Evo 10k miles no problems,
However These are not sold on a production bases due to the possible problems with them,
With the advent of the Inturnal gated GT series turbo's almost makes these manifolds redunant for all but the maddest engines.

Mark the problem is with the design of the cossie engine, the resonance that the YB exhibits and the space in which we have to package the manifold. The downward angle of the exhaust ports makes expansion issues a serious issue on the YB, and makes slip joints a necessity.

I hope Rod's manifold lasts, truely I do but I know with all the heart ache and effort I've put into mine you're fighting a losing battle.

Alq1k I wouldnt have said I have my own Design if it hadnt been Tubular, It makes 517hp 480ftlb thanks , Now going to 550hp 500ftlb+ which makes a change of turbo needed so now a diff manifold,
But we are not here to discuss the merrits of diff types of manifold Rod was giving a progress report on his car after sadly wrong reports of its demise.
