Default Smokey & The Bandit

Right my oil light came on, pump was knackered, when new pump was fitted and car was started the full workshop was full of bluey white smoke. After about 1.5 mins the engine chugs and dies unless you keep the revs up, if you rev it high where the turbo should come in, my boost gauge never goes above 0 psi! I've been told it could be valve stem seals and piston rings OR that the turbo seals are away. Any ideas cause its driving me mad

the turbo wont boost up unless your engine is under load mate so reving it wont make it come on boost, well possibly 2psi max!,

you need to drive it to see where the boost comes in, should be 2900 rpm if its a standard t3 and exhaust housing,

the smoke will be causeed by either

1, fooked stem seals, (VERY fooked)wont smoke alot on boost but will on over run. and massively when you start!

2, piston rings, smokes hard on and of boost if they are proper fooked!

3, turbo rear oil seal, leaking it into the exhaust housing, is worse just as you come on boost then it clears, and on over run is smokey

could be a combination of all three mate, good luck

The pipe coming off the turbo is full of oil. It smokes quite bad when its idling and really bad when you give it some revs

Sounds like your fooked oil pump starved your turbo.

If it was just the turbo that was knackered, would the car cut out @ idle?

Turbo has munched up the oil seal on the exhaust side and is pissing in to the exhaust i expect

On the plus side your exhaust won't rust

Gonna take my exhaust manifold off tonight and start it up. If its the turbo then surely the engine will still run and wont cut out is this correct? Any help appreciated

I don't know how your planning on taking exhaust manifold off and letting the turbo hang there.......

If theres oil in the exhaust, undo the manifold and pull it forward and stick your fingers in the ports and feel for oil, if theres none, it has to be the turbo. Also have you ever started a car with no manifold, its fucking well loud

Ran ok with manifold off so i presume its the turbo. Wheres the best place for a new one?
