Default How many accidents have you had in the last 5 years?

Been reading a shed load of info on the public view of car enthusiasts recently and most of them seem to say we are menaces on the roads.

But how many of you have actually been in a crash in the last 5 years?

Ive been in one, but have only been driving for just over 6 years.

How many have you been in and do you think that we are more likely to have an accident?

I had one minor accident when I first started driving (13 odd years ago), which was down to inexperience and had nothing to do with performance, I was in a 1.6L Sierra.

Nothing since.

There are other categories of people, for those that want to stereo-type, that are far more of a menace on the road than someone that absolutely loves his/her car.

At least you're honest!!

I fooking hate seeing people who pull out without looking. People who are hesitant is my biggest hate though, I just wish people would get on with it.

Women seem to be the worst for cutting across lanes on a roundabout too.

theres no point in denying it was my fault....it was my first day owning my first rear wheel drive car (2ltr sierra) and my work at the time was in the middle of knowhere....big gravel area as you join the single track road up to it so i got cocky and went out into the road sideways (thinking that as usual no1 would be going about and a m8 of mine was coming down said road about 80-90 mph (his estimate) and went clean into my passenger door.....firing me down the road and up the embankment....i was sure i was going thru the fence and into the yard and theres some funny things go thru your head at that point but luckily a tree stopped my progress

needless to say i learned my lesson about rear wheel drive cars.....and went and bought a 535i bmw

it did change my attitude about driving a bit tho

I do a lot of miles for work and have had a couple of scares in the last five years.

Going down to work in the snow one day, roads got really icy, traffic stopped still in front of me. I braked and skidded, and it was either hit the car in front or off the road and into the hedge, so I chose the hedge. Just smashed one headlight but nothing else. That was in my Escort Diesel Estate.

And about 8 months ago had a blowout on the front at 60mph in my 325 BMW TDS. Ripped the tyre off the rim but I held onto it and stopped safely and surprisingly little damage. Lots of smoke and bits of melted rubber all over the car and had to get the AA out to get me to a tyre bay, but that's about it.

Had loads of little bumps and one writeoff when I first started driving, many moons ago.

In the last five years...

1 accident envolving me rolling my astra as a result of someone elses driving.
1 accident as the result of somone leaving a truck wheel in the road when I went to the street races in brum- no other cars envolved.
1 accident envolving a bus as a result of my impatience.

The previous 2 years is the problem..
when I was 17 and 18 I totalled...
3 mini's
1 Fiesta
1 AXGT- but it took 2 attempts

had one in my old RST, silly cow turned down a road in front of me as i went past she reversed straight back out leaving me a gap of wing mirror to wing mirror. Just got through but had to swerve on a wet road, back went out opposite locked then slid into a parked car...

owners were a set of africans fresh from a 'gathering' and about 20 of them got a bit excited about it. Worst thing is they told the driver who reversed in front of me to DRIVE AWAY . They were asking me for cash on the spot so their car i hit was obviously highly illegal, i had the bar out from my 3 tonne jack so they never got any ideas...

I had a mate local to where i crashed who found the car as i'd remmebered plate number, she admitted fault and i claimed off her. took some persuasion

Worst i had was on 11/1/06, some stupid bint in a Corsa came through a red light into the side of my Boxster, writing it off, and very narrowly avoided seriously injuring my pregnant missus.

Worked out OK tho. Insurance paid out Ł500 less than i'd paid for it 14 months earlier.....hence the Focus RS I now own.

Injury claims ongoing....

Never in five years.

Was in one some 8 years ago and I was just a passenger in car that was hit from behind when we stood still at the traffic lights.

In answer to your question I think that to a degree we are a menace to the road esp when younger.. but we are no way near as bad as old people!

I spun my old RS Turbo and clipped a parked car [two business men having a meeting in a lay-by ].

Could have been ALOT worse but I managed to catch it before it went all the way round.

I've been driving 3 years and only had one accident where someone rammed into my Mondeo from behind.

It all got sorted off the books tho as i needed a new rear bumper anyway so he paid for it (as well as a new tailgate, new front bumper and a meal for two with what was left )
