Default Are people Boy Racerist???

Was at a job interview last week and as they were looking over my cv they went

"Oh have an interest in cars do you?"
"Yes, its my main hobby."
"What do you drive?"
"Fiesta XR2"
"I bet you have a massive sound system in it and a big body kit and drive round southend on a weekend."

I dont think I should have argued the point on that one, I didn't get the job

Is it just me or when you say to 90% of people that your into cars they imediately start comparing you to you chavy burbery wearing 17 year old with neons on their nova and e-tech spoiler

Did you answer "No, it's stripped out, the bodykit fell off and sometimes I drive round southend during the week too"???

If they judge people like that mate, you don't want to work there anyway

True, because we are easy targets and be blamed for a lot of problems in society.

After all the public perception is that most boy racers are chavs, and that most of the chavs are responsible for the rocketing crime in this country. therefore we are all evil and must be locked up and despised.

They also assume that a modified car driver is automatically a boy racer and hence will drive down then local high street at 60plus.

Also most of these people don't understand why we would have a car for fun, when surely a car is just for getting from A to B!!

see you dont find that as much up this way for some reason,a lot of the oil companies sponsor cars at knockhill or have staff that race there (my last 2 bosses are regulars at knockhill or the local stock cars) and with one of scotlands main stock car places just outside town most of the locals get the whole cars for fun/racing thing

Complete opposite for me..

The last interview I went to I got the job.

But I explained I got to shows and track days and stuff... to be told... we are all petrol heads here..

Just look around the car park.. we have loads of X5's and Mercs.. and Ian the sales guy even has a new Z350....

Well fuck me.. I am in petrol head heaven obviously..

I start tuesday.

its pretty disheartening that we are persecuted for liking cars, i mean a genuine enthusiast never hurts anyone so why do so many people frown upon us??

Its just stereotyping. We are all "car enthusiasts"

Would they also think that some old boy who has restored an old MG or any pre 70's car to be a boy racer?

Stereotyping, as above. Apparently I'm a chav because I drive a Cosworth

The opinion is usually that of the 'lords who drive at 50 in a 60 zone, and then proceed at the same speed when the limit drops to 30/40

I get it the same at work although not quite as bad at my interview. I stressed i was into the club aspect and showing the car at ford fair etc. I got alot of "It looks like a boy racers car to me" when it was featured not long after i started. Very hard not to swear at people, when they refuse to listen when you state they are talking out their arse

I get it at work,

My argument is what boy racer can afford a 30k car and the insurance answer NOT FUCKING MANY so i'm not a boy racer i'm a young adult that likes fast cars

always been labelled a boy racer at my work because i choose to spend my cash on having a nice modified car rather than on depreciation of a mundane piece of socially acceptable cack.
