Just driving along about 20 minutes ago and i flashed the headlights. The car just died!!
All that came on the dash was the red battery light and then it stoped. There is no dashboard lights and the car turns over but wont fire.
I have checked all the blade fuses under the bonnet and they are fine, could it be the ignition rely, if so where is it???
Also when i took the ECU cover off the Earth strap that goes on the screw of the ECU wasnt connected, would this of coursed it???
tiff, check from the battery, there should be a small wire that goes to the loom,on + side, try it,common fault on older fords, but from what i remember i think this will kill everything
hope this helps
I would check the main and fuel relay's behind the glovebox.
there s also some fuses down there too
Where abouts behind the glove box???
How do i know if a relay is fooked?
if it's the same as a saff, litterally put ya hand up behind the glove box and you should feel a load of relays, pull them down and you will find 2 yellow ones, 1 is the main realy and the other 1 (with fuse inline with ti) is the fuel pump relay.
they are both the same so you could try swapping them round and see if anything is different.
didnt you say that when you fitted some new head lamps ,you had problems getting them to work?that might be causing the problems you have now.check the earth points on the front chassis rails one on each side.also check the loom multi plug under the bonnet for good connection, common fault
tiff my old saffy did this and it was the fuse links on the battery had fused lol and cut me the fook out in the middle of a juntion 2 new wires through suitable fuses cured that problem hth
