vauxhall calibra's
They're not shit if they've been looked after mate. A good turbo one is a nice quick car at cheap money. Can be seen as a bit chavvy I suppose but nothing to get wound up over

Stlying is a bit dated now obviously, but the engines are pretty good.
I would have thought gay people wouldnt be interested in them as (other than alex of course) gay men are normally quite style conscious.
I dont suppose you happen to know someone called Ben from nottingham do you?
He's the ONLY person i have ever heard who is delusional or ignorant enough to think the calibra is a great car thats better than the likes of cosworths etc.

But with utterly no heritage of any real following behind them, i cant really see that anyone would bother, as whats the point in setting a record for something when you would be the ONLY person who was interested in it.
Its not like Rod where there were loads of people all competing for it and trying to get the record etc.
Even if you got to 40mph in a calibra at brunters it would probably be a record that stood forever

i've had 2 calibra's in the past, one tuned 16v model 5 years ago when i was 18 and another 16v when i was 21 ( although this one was definitely a ringer
)
the first i had was an excellent car, smooth , sleek , just enough equipment to keep you occupied and decent performance ( remembering i was only 18) although it did an indicated 150 mph whilst probably showing of to my new at the time girlfriend
i would imagine now they are all shit but a few years back they were a very good alternative to some of the more boring saloon type cars,
one night in town on the piss, i had a girl come over and say " you own the fastest car in Redditch don't you" i was like "fook off, it's only a vauxhall"
(it was tuned, bout 210bhp from memory, but fook all low down power and then took off from 3k upwards )

Had so much fun playing with one this summer.
Sat at the lights in the cossie and suddenly a calibra turbo appears in the rear view mirrors. He is caning it out of the bend prior to the lights and since the traffic lights flicked to green at the same point off I went.
The calibra driver was well over the limit so it was gaining on me very fast. Just when he is about to pass me I engage third gear.....fourth....going in to fifth I let off as he is so far behind.
Not much of a race but I take every chance to educate the calibra owners about cossie power.

that would ahve had a different ending
i dont like calibra's i think they are crap but you cannot knock them for in a reliablity and performance per pound
oil pump failure on a let
second hand crank within standard spec Ł30
set of rods Ł30
pistons Ł100
unskimed head Ł100
and imo thats where the calibra comes into its own
but the cav turbo is much nicer lol (althou really just the same )
i bought my minter on ebay for Ł500, 30k on the clock and not 1 problem since bought.
my only point was the cars good for what it is (as standard), no point puttin it up against cossies!

best thing to do with a chavalibra is to buy a broken one off ebay, then stick the excellent engine in somthing decent
My mate got a rear ended calibra turbo for Ł500
, and is currently putting it all into a corsa
The 2L XE is a good transplant into a Mk1 or 2 escort for cheap power as well

Not bad motors but dated. does the job though, as stated.
Obviosuly when kam (urban legend
) is not moisturising and in fact driving his pink calibra some might think differently.

polished stainless steel covers on everything
polished rocker cover ..
mitsu evo intercooler ..
and still gets its arse whooped by my cossie

I had one and I loved it! For what they were and how much they cost they were great cars. If modded nicely they also looked ok I think. I planned a Turbo conversion but got no further than tidying up the C20XE with a few minor engine mods.
If I rolled my Cossie today, I'd put the running gear and engine into my old Calibra tomorrow. The only thing lacking in the Calibra was the power of the Cossie. With 500+bhp I'm sure it would shift along well even if they are bloody heavy!

I like the next pic - this was a girl I spent every day of Summer 2002 with.... she liked the car too so I'm not complaining

Think this Calibra is or was the World's fastest street legal car IIRC? Something like an 11 litre engine - sure Chip will prob know more about it. Now that is a street car I would REALLY like to own.

Looking like one is good enough for me!
Anyone else with any shameful stories / pics they want to share of a past Calibra owning life?
Admitting you have a problem is the first stage to recovery, or so the little voices tell me!
Simon
