Default A1 Rallysports Focus cossie?

Being as bored as a Badger, I was reading through the performance tables in Performance ford the other night, and spotted the old A1 Rallysport focus's times . What made that car soooo fast? Running a pretty standard 500bhp spec engine, T4, 8 injectors etc etc, nothing too mad on the engine side, but the 0-100 times were insane! somthing like 7.4 secs off the top of my head What sort of diff was it running, and is it because the shell was so stiff etc or just clever rear geometry? You see a lot of 3doors / saffs etc running that sort of power and they struggling to get into the 9 secs for 0-100, I assume due to bad traction etc

tbh im not really to sure what it is that did it!!!! its rear wheel drive to i think. ive got a 570bhp yb in an alfa and it has a data logged 0-100 of 8.6!! thats the best itsever done ive only ever had it in the 9s before and since so i guess traction is a huge part. but the gearing also!!! does the focus have a sequential gearbox??

As far as I can remember it had a T5 with a quickshift? I remember reading the feature about it ages ago, and it had a fairly trick rose jointed and bilstein coilover suspension set up as well. Just wondering as it was mentally fast for a RWD car

did it actually make it in to the 10s on the 1/4 or was it mid 11s as i cant remember!!! i only ask as my alfa has done 11.6@131 at pod and my escort 11.9 but 4wd. the alfa doesnt have the t5 box i have used a rear mounted box in that with very different gear ratios to what i had with the borg box so i would guess its that!! although is it john fitztatrick the guy with the 3 door runs 11.3 in rwd

The gearbox was just a normal T5 box (don't remember it having a quick shift)
The diff was a standard ratio Gripper one, i know this as it was my diff he borrowed.

It did a 10.8 and 10.9 at the pod both runs with a terminal of 130mph.

Dunno about other cars 1/4 times as the focus is heavier than what a 3dr or saff is.
Also the car was set up for track use and not the 1/4 must just be how Steve drove it.

what about aerodynamics...you can't compare a 3dr/escos with a focus...

I wouldn't have thought aerodynamics come into it at those speeds. But I always thought it was 4wd but those pics show otherwise

Mine did 0-100 8.1 with 500bhp so sub 9's are possible. Now its an insane 6.9.

Big tyres, well set up. 9' diff, an experienced and good driver and a load of NITROUS! so it was running well over 500bhp mate!

cool car RIP

now thats well quick.

Wonder what it would do down a strip. What the terminals would be.

Rod ever tried it on the 1/4 mile? Any results?

I miss my old Focus more than any other car I have ever owned, so I have built another one using some of the old parts, the car will be even nicer than before and will have some new trick parts on it. Im hoping to have it ready for central day.
Cheers Steve.

If you have the car (or a shell from ford (Ł1k or so)) to get it prepared for rwd/4x4 running gear would range between Ł1500 & Ł2.5k depending on who does it and what extras you might want.
