Took my escort for a 40 mile journey last night everything was fine and as usual my battery light glowed dimly.Got home and left it running outside and after 5mins the headlights went dim and the car cut out.The battery is totally flat!!! what the hells going on? It had a new altenator a couple years ago and the battery indicator in the dash is always up where it should be.Help

 

Have you checked the wiring for the charging circuit, also check the blue wire it has a habit of corroding on fords, ( i dont fully understand how it works but the blue wire has something to do with the dashboard light, if its corroded the light will come on and your battery will go flat)

Where abouts do I check these connections? I went back out to the car to jump it and the car turned over and started but last night there wasnt enough power for the radio to work.Weird

 

Yeah had a new 2 new alternators and batteries before a broken wire out the back of the alternator was found by the AA man. tut. Intermittent faults are the worst

 

Deffo, that battery wire, Also check the two coil wire whilst you are at it..
