50cc scooter on a car license. Just done an online quote and got £350 TP ONLY!!!!

Im 25, 3 x sp30s (1 was over 3 years ago) and 1 recent fault accident.

How do these 16yr olds get mega cheap insurance?

I really want a quad, but they are treat as cars which means I'd pay congestion charge and parking to commute to london on one.

i dont think you can ride a scooter on a car licence mate. think you have to take a cbt which only last three years. best you find out.

 

Can you just not stick L plates on a 49cc scooter and bomb about on that?

by the way a moped is classed as...

has a maximum speed of 31mph
engine capacity no greater then 50cc
can be propelled by pedals if it was first used before 1st aug 1977

 

If he passed his car test before Feb 01 he can ride a 50cc moped, no CBT no L plates.

If he wants to ride a 125cc then he'll need to do CBT and if he passed after Feb 01 he'll need to do CBT regardless

Just want something cheap that will get me into bikes and I can earn a few bob back as I can claim milage to work!

Im already insuring, taxing and MOT'ing a cossie and a mondeo every year! Idea of a scooter is its cheap as cheaps!

A full car licence gives you full moped entitlement so you don't need L plates.

The full car licence gives you full moped entitlement, always has, so you are not a learner rider when on a 50cc

Comes with EC certificate, apparantly all I have to do is put it together and get it registered with DVLA.

Not sure how hard parts will be to come by unless I always go direct to that seller?

mate put his bike in for a service at the dealers and got a scooter to take away while it was being done. he came past my work to show me and he looked well stupid riding the scootay with full leathers the lot on!

My mate had one at college that he used to ride to the station as he lived in the neighbouring village. His cheap insurance came as he had the bike on finance and it was included in the purchase price. I suspect it is the same with the little 1.0 cars with "free insurance". Had he bought the thing out right he would have paid a lot for insurance though.
