Default Important topic. Vote required on General Discussion layout

Ok folks its been over a week now since i split general discussion into 2 sections, (Car and non car) so what do you think?

Ive heard lots of for's and lots of against's... interestingly, most of teh "for's" have given me good reasoning behind their answer and literally NONE of the "against's" have had a good reason that ive heard, other than "Its too many mouse clicks"

So now its time to vote...
Its going to be a Gold members only vote for one full week, that stops idiots registering new names to vote, so lets have it people, are we staying as we are, or are we goint back to one mixed room again? Its now up to YOU.

Vote here:

Stu,

On the drop down menu can we not have the following as the first three options:

General Discussion (CAR related)
General Discussion (NON CAR related)
General Discussion (COMBINED - both of the above)

No Doug, would be a nightmare to program it and not somethig i want to get involved with as then people would want all teh other forums they dont use adding as well. It gets me how come no one gets involved in the other rooms, some of our best technical discussions are in there and they are great, no mindless drivel posted at all... makes me wonder if thats why some peeps dont use em, maybe they just dont want to read decent topics

Can't vote Stu as i'm a tight git (need all of my coin for the Cossie work ) but I personally prefer the 2 sections.

Far easier to track threads that your looking at / posting in and whilst before threads sort of dissappeared off the bottom of the page after a few hours due to the number of new general chat threads on the split forums at least they stayed on the first page for a while longer.

Big forums mate, lots of users, to me means that you've got to have different areas in the system for different types of chat!

i like the idea of 2 rooms because you can talk car stuff in 1 room and general crap in the other it makes sense to do it this way also any non related topics should be removed as it gets a bit teadiass looking at the same posts over and over again

keep up the good work admins

Sorry I can't vote as I'm a tight git and have yet to become a "Gold" member
But I must say I love the new split sections.
I'ts pretty hard making a new thread etc and in 2 minutes it's rolled back 3 pages which was what it was like with the old combined sections
I'm here to talk about cars etc and not so much about everyday chat (I'd love to but I can't afford the time).
It's much easier now with the two sections to keep up with whats going on.

My 2 cents anyhow

As snow, -scar- and rssapphowner writes.. two sections

in my opinion the best is a split general discussion into 2 sections, as it is easy'er to find and follow threads...

I think the layout as it is is solid, but that PF loses its magic like this

I've not used the site much at all in the last week as it just doesn't feel that good anymore. Maybe that's not the technical explanation required but it's how I feel tbh.

I liked the fact that general discussion moved along quickly. You always felt that you could post about absolutely anything and get an answer fairly quickly.

To me it made PF the best forum on the net, and although it was car based, it became so much more than that in my eyes. Almost a life portal, if you will. One place where you could come and ask for help or chat about anything at all, and have fun doing it.

This to rooms set up works incredibly well, no doubt as it was intended. But as I said, it just doesn't have the PF magic anymore, that cosy community feel.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

I prefer the 2 rooms. For the likes of us who are no longer RS owners but still enjoy the banter that PF brings it makes reading posts much easier

obviously members who havent paid the 20 quid are irrelevent seems abit strange as it would probably be alot quieter if only gold members were allowed to post

Much prefer 2 rooms, separates the 'wheat from the chaff'

The board is called PassionFord - Reference site for Ford Enthusiasts after all and preference should be given to car topics first and foremost whatever marque of car and shove all the chit-chat like [taken purely as random]

I can see no reason for wading through pages and pages of waffle that people, somehow feel compelled to post on the bb.

Also, I have failed to find one intelligent, logical reason why it should be one forum.

Gold members are THE only reason PassionFord actually exists. It costs so mch to run a site with 60million hits per month that without them, we would just close it, simple. So why shouldnt they get a say in how it runs over the people who just come here and contribute nothing at all?

You have some legitimate reason to refute what ive just said?

So why shouldnt they get to say how it runs?
where did I say they shouldnt have a right to say how it goes???

my point is, thee are members on here that contribute to the site in other ways, ok, not financially, but that side appears to be covered...

all Im saying is, Im surprised its not an open vote to all members..

guess I'll just sit back and read it..

I think the split is a good idea... It keeps the topics posted on top for longer and you dont get the mind numbing rubbish in between... It makes it much easier to look at the posts that have been left since your last visit.. If i only want to look at the car related ones it certainly doesnt take me as much time to sift through the posts for the interesting ones.. Who says progress is a bad thing.. I think it msakes sense to split it up with the volume of people posting up in general discussion.

i havent posted on here very often but been reading this forum for what feels like years, and i have to admit alot of posts in the general section could have been posted in a more relavent section, it seems absolutely everything goes into the general section. Over time all the other areas have become sort of redundant and missed, theres no need to visit other areas becuase everything in one place.

Thats my 2p worth of opinion, we shoud post in appropriate sections rather than bung everything in the general. But seperating it i found it easier to keep tractof what i was reading, doesnt move down the list as fast.

well it would seem that all those of us who don't pay don't contribute anything at all to the forum so lock it up so only goldmembers can access the forum then see how popular it is!

Only Gold Members can vote

What a load of rubbish, I appreciate they contribute to the running of the site, but without the non gold members u wouldnt have much of a site to run would ya!
Also I bet most of the Gold Members want a split room so job done two rooms it is, fuck the rest
Honestly Stu I know me personally has stopped coming on as much in the past week and I wont be the only one, yes there is some daft stuff on here but have you ever heard the phrase " why change a winning formula", thats what made the site so "community like".
