Default rev counter probs on 88 spec EFi conversion...

Just had my EFi converted ERST running and I've noticed the rev counter is only reading half...

Can anyone tell me how to get it reading right with 88 spec clocks?

you just need to run a wire from pin 11 on the EDIS module to the existing rev counter wire problem solved

Don't think that will work mate as the EFi uses a wasted spark system. You need EFi clocks I'm afraid mate

What Mark said, bang on.

You don't have to use EFi clocks.

you will have to put a new wire into the edis module plug as pin 11 isn't used normally then attach it to the old wire (green) that goes to your rev counter.

you need to change the rev counter when switchin from coil to coil pack or vice versa. wasted spark only has to fire half as often so will only turn the rev counter half as far. You can still put your white dial cover or whatever on it, but it's the mechanism behind it that you replace.

No you don't.

EEC-IV does use the wasted spark system, and the EFi equipped Escorts did come with a specific tachometer. However, if you connect your tacho feed to pin 11 on the E-DIS unit, it will read true. This is the pin between your two coil outputs.

Just to jump in......Pin 11 on the E-DIS is the "Clean Tachomoeter Out", so it will run a normal rev counter, and for those among you swearing by the EFI and non EFI clocks, have you actually looked at the boards on the rev counter, i think you will find they are 100% the same, just adjusted differently........

well the cars in for MOT at the mo so can't do anything but it looks like I'm gonna have to drill a hole through the casing of the plug to be able to get to the pin, I'll do this as soon as she's home

No no no no no don't drill the casing, just go to your local brakers and cut a plug off, hack that apart so u can find out how to dismantle it without damaging your one, and then fit a pin into yours

I drilled mine, as it didn't use the pin and there were no contact in there. Then I changed the contacts from pin 2 because I didn't need that one. Std efi will need that though.

yeah I've got to take a trip up the scrappy when she's all legal, then I'm gonna pull an EDIS module apart up there to get a contact for the pin
