Default S2 box onto S1

Will this work? A mate of mine has offered me a s2 gearbox but I'm not sure if they're a straight swap.

Nope as the S2 box has no pick ups for the posh tie bar setup.

You can fit an S1 box to an S2 but not the other way round

Luckily there's nothing wrong with my box so I'll just keep mine for now, would have been nice to have a spare though.

Mine has an S2 box in mine. The gate as it's called is in the gearbox on the S2 where as it's below the gearstick on the S1.

The S2 box was put in mine and then the bits removed from underneath the gear lever.

Unless there was something done to mine that I don't know about

So what have you bolted the front gearbox mounting to?

You can have an S2 box built up in an S1 gearbox casing with the H gate in the box OR in the gear linkage remote. (S1 has the H gate in the remote, S2 has the H gate in the box).

That's exactly what I always thought, some people been trying to tell me they haven't and that it only comes on an S2. Just thought I'd make sure, thanks mate

The S1 came with the LSD. The S2 also had one but they toned it down by drilling holes in the plates that work against the viscous fluid.

I ditched mine and fitted a Stage 2 Plus gearbox from CTS (Gearboxman) with Quaife ATB diff.

Are the gears longer on an S2 than an S1?

How much did you pay for your stage 2 gearbox DazC?

Might be worth using an S2 5th gear then if it's possible to put one into an S1 box if I get a new one made in future.

The final drives are completely different. S1 has 4.27 and S2 has 3.82.
