Just trying to put my cd player into my S1 and unit is getting power as it chucks cd back at you when you plug it in but is not powering up?
I only need an earth, permanent live nd ignition feed for (kenwood) head unit and i have from the car, earth (brown) permanent live (yellow) but couldnt find ignition feed so just using power feed to cigarette lighter but still no power - any ideas?

from what I remember yellow is igntion and red is permenant live on the car wiring
but red is ignition and yellow is permenant (memory) on the kenwood loom.
So when u wire it in you have to wire it in so that:
car red > kenwood yellow
car yellow > kenwood red
of course you have to have the ignition on for the stereo to work.

Right I have the brown which is obv earth and the yellow which is ignition live. Just need to get a constant live now and should power up yes?
I'm used to S2's which have the 3 you see

Yes thats correct, i put mine in while i had the dash out, i tapped it off the cigarette lighter permenant feed, but i removed the standard wire from the fusebox and uprated it slightly just to be on the safe side as obviously your stereo has a 10 amp fuse, and the original wiring was never meant to have this extra load. Or u could tap off the ignition switch and put your own inline fuse in. Its also worth putting a fuse in the yellow wire as ive seen many burnt out and from the factory it is an un-fused wire.
