Thoughts on them please, good and bad

 

my hi spec 285mm drilled discs are cracked to fukk, and they are Ł195 to replace with grooved ones, Ł195 for drilled, or Ł145 for plain.

they also supply a spacer to move your caliper outto take the bigger disc. unless you are going for the 4 pot full kit??


i have just got some esc cos calipers, discs, pads and braided brake lines,,, for the same price of just the discs...

Were spot on in my experience on the 3door. Had 330mm disks n their big 4pots.

 

heard a little good and a lot bad.

I know they *USED* to have a problem with the bolts sheering off DannyH and someone else had this. I think this was because they did or didn't bake the bolts so I heard. I've never used them personally so I couldn't comment. Just passing on what I've read on here/RSOC BB.

Personally I'd either go for a cheapish say ST170 setup or go the full way i.e AP or something.

 

My experience is good, did my bean tin proud

 

What about a Wilwood set-up from Rally Design as a good alternative?

 

for the money you cant complain, calipers are nice and light, kit fitted straight on my car. Discs are slightly dubious as in they appear to be a turned down oem disc off something like a 7 series bmw or similar. Not had them on track yet but they do the job more than well enough on the road.

Theres more than just AP that make proper brakes

 

i know a few people with the full kit fitted and there are no problems , look quite nice too

I WILL be running my 15" S1 rims, so i need suggestion on Co's that make and sell a kit simular to the Hi-Spec one.

Throw them at me, i'm open to everything.

i had nothing but trouble and after a couple of months i had over half the bolts shear and then the disc's warped and i never did track days are realy took the brakes to there limits, so imo they are a pile of shit and i would save your money and buy some ap's

I was never happy with the set up and one other major problem i had was the kit didn't fit i ended up having to GRIND a bit out of the lower ball joint so the disk didn't foul on it, when i told LOW-Spec the problems and that the discs were now warped the basic responce was you can buy new discs if you want othere than that we aint doing shit.

Needles to say i wil never use that company again and advise other people to do the same.

 

are these calipers from the monster 6pot or the megamonster 6pot

I had heard mixed opinions about them before I got mine, but after selling loads, with no problems, I thought why not?
They definately look .
Even when I sell AP kits they come with a pack of shims/ spacer washers, and sometimes when fitting them, a bit of gentle persuasion is needed ( with a file or grinder) to fit them aswell.
Brakes, as Bruce said really, are very important, so make sure they are fitted properly and bedded in properly as per instructions

As Stephen c says, I was told, the discs are often BMW items, re-machined....

I would never have em on my car... but each to thier own...

Prob why the brakes seem fine, as the tyres dont actually grip properly, under braking, so no fade

My mate runs them on his S1 and they do the job spot on. Did have a problem with them fouling on the lower arm but went to work with an angle grinder and all is ok now.

I've gone for the wilwood 300mm discs & 4pot calipers for mine which I've got to pick up tomorrow from the deilvery place.

I think I've paid about Ł700 ish from Rally Design which is for the 4 pot calipers, 300mm discs, brake lines & pads.

Had the 325mm 4 pot kit on the datsun and they were really good

 

Just to put the record straight, the very early discs when Hi-spec first started were made from BMW blanks.

The current discs are sourced from the EXACT same British foundry as the AP ones.

Regarding the bolts shearing, it was discovered that a rogue batch of non-hi-tensile bolts got mixed in with the normal lot and also that people weren't following the torque settings and did them up too tight.

DannyH also suffered from the Greenstuff syndrome .
