Default Wahoo, got myself a 2nd job / hobby

Ive always been interested in journalism and i enjoy writing up about stuff im doing with tuning engines etc, so this is fantastic news for me as im going to be writing for Total Vauxhall magazine now on a (very much) part time basis.

Main things i will be writing about initially are the vauxhall TOTB team efforts and some moderately technical stuff to do with the LET / XE engines.

Barton (aka my new boss, lol) is quite keen for the magazine to go further down the route of being technical (as its sister publicaton fast ford has been doing) so hopefully that will be good news in the eyes of most people who read it as lots of people out there are interested in tuning the LET and XE.

So if anyone has any good suggestions as to what i could write about, then please say so here, and i will of course claim the idea as entirely my own and give you no credit for it

apologies for posting this on a ford site, but im just so chuffed TBH that thought i would share it with people

I think you should write about how shit the Vauxhall LET engine is compare to the Cosworth YB .

Well done, and glad to see the magazines are finally realising that we don't all want just tits and bums in car mags .

40mpg, closed loop as standard, better flowing head as standard, near identical strength pistons to the YB as it also uses mahle, comes on boost earlier, easier to make minor mods to in terms of things like headwork as the airflow meter adjust for it without needing a remap.

hmm, going to be a short article that one.

Seriously though, the LET isnt as bad as people give it credit for as a starting block, the main thing it lacks is the awesome tuner support and supply of parts that is about for the YB

Im sure if you expressed that interest to simon@FF you could do, but im guessing you wouldnt have enough time?

Mind you saying that, you've already done about a years worth of technical features in the archives section of this forum if you wanted to submit them!

Congrats Chip,

There must be a load of topics out there that could be covered.

You could break it down into a series of "all you ever need to know about" then cover one component of a high performance engine.

Eg.

All you ever need to know about....

Turbos, how to match, read a compressor map etc

Fuel injectors, how they work, different types, high impedance low impedance, side feed top feed etc. How to select for your engine

Inlet manifolds, how they work, pulse tuning, how a trumpet improves flow, injector positioning

All the stuff that you have probably, like me looked into when you come to at some point when building an engine.

My latest subject of interest is flywheels, having just designed and had a batch made of zetec to T5 cossie clutch items. Was lucky to have the manager of power train development at lotus pop in for a flocked dash for his kit car the other day. I think he was a bit suprised when i grilled him on flywheel design for an hour.

No probs. Just email a rough plan and I'll fill in the details.

If they have got any sense they will make you tech ed and have you proof read the mag before it goes to print. Some of the glaring mistakes in tech specs, tech facts and tech explainations i have seen in many mags lately makes them look very silly.
