Default Never made it to Kent RS meet !!!! Engine let go !!!!!!

Well, hear we go again, it would seem that the car has got it into it's head to break down at every opportunity going this your!!!!!!!!!!
Having only just put the gearbox back in the car, due to massive oil leak,
https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...545&highlight=
it now decides to blow a con rod and spit the contents of the sump out on to the M25

Having got it home and had a quick look under the bonnet I found a little end
resting on top of the starter motor, not quite where ford intended it to be.

Thanks to Dave, Zoe and the others who stopped to help me

His a couple of picks, more to follow

Annoyed

Steve

Thanks for all your replies the annoying part is that I was only cursing along at about 75-80 under light throttle when without warning the engine just let go much smoke, water, oil and bits of engine left the car
Should have the head off this evening, hoping the it has left the head intact
Will post more picks later.

Cheers

Steve

Now have the head off, the damage is not as bad as it could of been, the head has survived and only has one bent inlet valve, the gear box has survived the block being smashed by the con rod found some of the piston still in the bore but it does a bit the worse for wear
The sump has a large hole in as well, bat as yet a don’t have a photo

to my surprise the big end is still on the crankshaft.

More picks when I get the engine out tomorrow.

Cheers

Steve

Jesus Steve!

That doesnt look good! Mind you hasnt that engine lasted pretty well? Perhaps all the fatigue finally caught up with the old girl!

Hope that you manage to get her fixed soon, im dure you have plenty of spares laying round your garage!

Hi mate, yes I hope to have it up and running by Sunday the most annoying part is hat this engine has only done 6k
The engine I built was made form all new parts, piston, crank, and rods.
Still puzzled to quite why if failed the only thing I can think of is I may of bent a rod at some stage??? , As about a month ago I had a problem with the Amal valve which blow apart coming back from a show, driving down the 4M. The first I knew about it was when over taking, foot hard down, the boost went off the boost gauge 30+ psi the engine wasn't keen on the idea, it faltered and held back.
Limped the home as it would not idle, fixed the valve and all has been fine until now
Strange though I thought it would of let go sooner as I have done"hard" 1200 miles since the Amal valve problem

cheers

Steve

Friday night, and the engine is out and striped, have found most of the piston in the sump but can't find the gugen pin I guess it's on the M25 between clackett lane services and the M20 junction

His a few more picks of the evening events, at least some pars are salvageable 3 pistons and rods, but as for the crank I guess that it is probably bent

Cheers

Steve
