fitness

Right, just been out for a run which is the first time i've run further than the to the top of the stairs in about 10 years :cry: I managed a short circuit around the local roads which probably wasnt even a mile, my question is i can get on the bike for 40 minutes at a time and average 21mph for the whole time, when i'm done i'm not breathing heavily but have sweat gallons, when i just finished the run i was hardly sweating but was absolutely fucked and could hardly breath, which is doing me more good a 15 minute run or 40 mins on the bike?

My aim is to get a definition and stamina with the weights and get ALOT fitter with the running/bike or both, at current i'm doing;

Weights monday/wed/friday with sat+sun off
Cardio after the weights and the days in between but still keeping sat+sun off, i usually get on the bike after the weights as its right next to my bench but if running is the better option then so be it.
Cheers :top:

I will always plum for the bike rather than the the running, purely because it is low impact on the knees and joints (as long as you have the saddle at the right height, e.g. knee should be slightly bent when at the bottom of the stroke)

They are two different exercises and the bike is supporting your weight where as with running you are picking yourself up each time you stride.

See my response on cardio vs weights as with a lot of cardio you can end up buring muscle and losing size, but if your goal is general fitness then I think you will achieve that happy medium using both running/riding and weights.

Anyhow, why not use both running and riding just so you don't go stale. Any form of variety on this sport helps keep you sane and motivated.

Cheers again paul, the reason i asked was because of the massive difference in how i feel when i've finished, riding = lots of sweat but hardly lose my breath, running = hardly sweat but absolutely knackered and can hardly breath :cry: just wondered which would be better in the long run for overall fitness.

Maybe i'll stick to the bike when i've done the weights and run on the off days :top:
