ls there or any compatible lowering springs on the rear that will drop it nicely and not to a stupid -mm?

I believe the suspension is the same as a hatch. A 35 or 40mm lowering kit for an xr3i or rs turbo should do the job. I presume it's a mk4.

If you mean Mk5/6 then the springs are different. I've recently bought a full set of -30m lowered springs but not sure I will fit them as my GTi estate sits low already and the speed bumps around here are lethal.

what mk is your escort as stan above is spot on as regards mk5/6

I had H&R progressive rate springs on my 94 mk5 estate a loverley ride.
Was quite low but looked good..
Took 6 weeks to arrive from germany but worth the wait...

even if they did fit the load on them would be wrong due to the escorts weight, my advice is get correct springs or leave it alone
