DDR? DDR2? What speed? What latency-rating? Branded or unbranded? ECC or non-ECC?

So far, I've used non-branded non-ECC DDR with an unspecified latency rating, bought from Scan Computers, since it's just up the road from me (Ł53 for a single 1GB PC2700 chip), but with my new computer, I'll be getting 2 * 1GB PC3200 cas-2-3-2-5 OCZ Platinum paired chips, Ł233 for the pair, from OverClock...

Have a Packard Bell P4 2.2mhz with 2 256 233hrz sticks. Would i need to find out what sticks were compatable with my motherboard...

 

Yes, that'd be the first step......find out the kind of sticks it'll take, and the maximum speed. In my opinion, buy the fastest it'll take (if it won't take more than one PC3200-speed stick, then upgrade - it's what I'm planning on doing soon, I'm currently limited to 2GB of PC2700), and keep it all the same speed (not as important these days, as it used to be, but I'm a stickler for tradition ).

Well luckily i got all the data off it but it's buggered won't even boot in bois, lol

So brought a new one and need to reload windows but i didn't get a XP disc with my PC. I'm kinda stuck.....

Before you start wondering the one that broke was my slave drive (has all my films etc etc one...the master one is a small 40gig drive the PC came with. Want to copy my 40gig drive onto my new one (250gig one) and have been advised to use a program called 'Ghost' by Norton. Anyone ever used it?
