Default light tinting question

i've put a pair of mk1 mondeo lexus style rear lights in the body shop to be smoke tinted - they were too bling and shiney for my liking (looked alot different to the advert i bought them from). i darent tint them myself in case i make a bolox of it.

i used to have the normal back lights tinted but they look so shit and old hat nowadays they had to go.

anyway, the bodyshop bloke has asked is it OK for him to use normal black car paint rather than tinting paint (tint paint fades and goes brown) and should he mix some laquer in with it?

and is there any chance the paint will react with the plastic and cause it to melt on the surface?
