If your not bothered about whos name is on hte log book and want to pay your dads insurance on it then go ahead. But expect to pay 600-1000 for the fully comp insurance on your "shitter" and then another not cheap policy for your dad aswell. You might aswell do it in your own name and be done with it.
Or just realise the fact is, when you are young you can't insure perfromance cars very easily, or cheaply. There is a reason the prices are what they are. Mainly cos young kids in fast cars die a hell of a lot quicker due to inexpirience.
The best way to do it is start off low. Then move a little higher, then a little higher etc (example. Start with a 1litre Fex, then next year a 1.4 Si, then next year an XR3i, then next year an RST, then next year a COssy, etc)
Insurers like that as they look at the history and see you have progressed "up the ladder" and that you have a history of cars getting quicker and quicker so you are less of a risk.....
