Personally for a road car i would say Koni's with a tyre and wheel package that is as close to the overall diameter of the standard wheels tyre package.

I.e 16's x 7.5-8 with a medium wall height. i.e 215/40/16's

or 17's x 7.5-8 with a smaller wall height i.e 215/35/17's

Just my opinion of course. As you say everything is a compromise, and 1 persons preferance might not suit anothers.
