TBH practice on the track actually counts far more than being a decent trackday driver, even a very average trackday driver could get an 8 in a reasonable car with a few dozen laps practice, but you would have to have balls of steel to manage the same on your first ever lap even if you were a very competant driver indeed.
That's why I always said that being fast on such a long circut on first laps needs rallydriver not track-day or even circut racing driver
Decent rallydriver in Gr.N Impreza would do sub 8 minutes in second lap with no problem probably
