I have been thinking about using Bilstein inserts for an Escort mk1/2. You can get some strut cases and build your own coilovers that way. But in the end that will be a lot more expensive than getting a pair off the shelf dampers.
Thanks Marc so in S.Africa there is no standard 4x4 oem equivalent off the shelf items available for xr4x4 hubs I would have to buy and import which is very costly because of size, weight and commodity type hence why I'm asking about alternatives for cases and inserts.

What would be an example on a standard length of a strut shock fully extended / travel to near bottom out and then to measure damper rate without it being it fully assembled considering using a standard coil spring setup. And then maybe a fully assembled part from bottom of shock to first nut and bearing and then full length.

Is the bottom of the shock tapperd to allow seating into the hub shock mounting hole or is it round and square?. These are the kind of details I'm looking for.

Do you know of any suitable strut case examples.

Cheers
