After fitting the metal return pipe the return hose could be fitted from the fuel rail, then I had to drop the fuel tank and remove the pump canister, put the st170 pump in the standard unit which after refitting everything completed the fuel system.
Just to see what would happen I tried to start the engine, it would start and idle just, but as soon as I tried to rev it it died, so assumed the ecu would not run it.
The st170 and RS ecu have 104 pin plugs all others are 60 pin. My RS project had the ecu from a 1.8 Focus fitted which meant I was not able to plug in the RS ecu so the obvious solution was to remove the ecu's and wiring harnesses and swap them around. After removing both the only difference I can see is one wire to the fuel pump relay which the st170 does not seem to need as the engine starts and runs lovely.
Next to do is the cooling, power steering, bleed the clutch, gear lever and cables and more
