id think of something more unusual if you really want to but definitely something with more than 130bhp
This is true, I guess it would be about these power as the costing motor it has now. But with a few more options for the future. Not much in tuning potential for the dohc

Mostly the same work but the better engine: 2.0 Duratec HE with ITB, also about 200+ bhp with the right setup
2,3 16V might be an option (RS2000 16V based engine). Nearly nobody tried to get some power out of these engines, but I think with cams and ITBs you'd also see ~200 bhp. Plus it was longtitudinal mounted (in the last Scorpio) from factory which makes it easier to put in when buying a whole donor car.
Cosworth 24V: Over here you get these quite cheap, mostly bulletproof engines, good torque but there's mostly no tuning parts available, especially a set of sports cams would be great to have as the setup of the engine is for a comfortable cruiser mostly.

And there's many, many more options. How about an inline six M3 engine? 286-360 bhp standard.
Or maybe one of the crazy japanese engines (2JZ etc.) I don't know much about?

In a rwd set up eh. That would he an interesting swap. I guess there's always the s2000 motor too.

And of course ease of finding a suitable transmission or adapter within his budget or does he want to stick with whatever trans he currently has.

As you say, budget it the biggest concern, taking power with reliability into account. I think this is something I want to drive a lot, but not end up losing my licence, and having to remortgage to run the thing either.

That's why I was thinking zetec.. lots of rwd swaps have been done. They are a solid engine, lots of mods and other parts available for them too. Does this equate to a cheaper swap? Assuming because it has been done so much, people are more familiar.

Going on what ive seen cossie engines go for lately, I'd imagine that once I buy one and all the bits it might be better to buy a real one. Plus a real cossie won't depreciate as much as this build.

As I'm not in a position to do this myself right now. It's gonna be paid work. Who are some decent people to talk to about my options??
