Floor pan info
Hi all
Strange question, but does anyone know what the various holes on the underside of the floor pan are there for? I get that there may be redundant alternative mounts for different models and the like (e.g. alt exhaust hanger pic attached pic-1) but I’m just interested in the larger round and elliptical holes (pic- 2 and 3) and smaller holes at the ends of the stamped strengthening channels (pic-4 and 5). I’m guessing some holes might be grab points used to align the panel by machine for assembly etc. Just wondering if anyone knew?
There is a reason for the question… I’ve had the same section of (£80) fuel pipe (fuel pump out to filter in) punctured by rodents on my KA twice now and it ain’t funny anymore. I’ve made a box out of 1mm perforated mild steel, to box in the fuel filter and vulnerable nylon pipes at both ends to keep the little blighters out, but I need to mount it. I’m not that keen on drilling into the floor pan if I can utilise the existing floor pan’s holes as above. I reckon I can use these existing holes as they look like they’ll manage the required load if I do it strategically. I’ve made the box to sit inside a 70mm recess, so it’s already almost self-supporting but the four (8M) mount bolts I plan to use will be taking the weight (0.7kg) of the box, plus the occasional impact of random debris that might fly up from the road. Actually the petrol filter on a 2008 KA seems stupidly vulnerably placed under normal conditions, so... When I’ve done it I’ll share what I know. Any thoughts?
