I did think that (about getting the S3 first, and then shifting it on should I decide it wasn't the right choice). My drive to work is mainly country back roads with a bit of town driving, which is one reason I thought the Quattro might be more fun than FWD (and I've been RWD for the last 9 years, which just handles nicer than FWD cars I had before that)
I would have thought that 300bhp and ~300lf/ft would be quicker than I need most of the time, since I've had 150bhp and I think 135lb/ft for the past decade
