Default Turbo blown on 2008 1.8D

Hi everyone,

The turbo blew on my 2008 Focus 1.8D with just over 100k on the clock.

Garage plugged ECU in and it showed two possible faults; boost pressure sensor or turbo charger.

I replaced the sensor with a good Bosch one with the exact same part numbers and it’s the same; total loss of power.

Took it back to the garage and they said it’s screwed and needs a new turbo, as it’s blown clean off the mountings or something!

Quoted me £1,400 to replace turbo, flush the system, replace the sump, oil flow test and a few other items (filters, hoses, pumps...)!

The car’s only worth about £1,200 if it was in good condition.

This seems STEEP don’t you think?!

The cost of the turbo is £700 alone, then the rest of the money is for the other parts and labour.

I don’t know what to do as I’m not earning much at the moment as I’m self employed and covid has badly affected my business.

What are your thoughts please?

A) Scrap it for £250
B) Sell it for spares / repair for £500
C) Get a one man band mechanic to fix it for hopefully a lot less
D) Other options???

I’ve got another vehicle, my Campervan, which I can use but am trying to keep the miles down on that and it’s also quite big for parking easily in towns etc.

Pretty gutted. I’ve looked after this car for many years and planned to keep it until it died. Looks like it just has!

I know you can get new turbos cheaper or recon ones or even used ones but the garage refused to fit parts I supply.

Thanks in advance...
