Probably a voltage thing (assuming the latch engages the lock electronically rather than mechanically). My Lexus does weird things with its locks when the voltage drops, usually when it's sat a couple days without use and in the cold too, like I'll unlock it and then after I turn the ignition on (before starting) it will randomly fire the lock solenoids a few times for no apparent reason.
