Default Vapor Barrier Material. What is the Best Solution?

Hi All

What the best material to use for replacing OEM type vapor barriers on the car door. This is the plastic type screen between the card and the door skin. The stuff on my vehicle is knackered and old.

I've been searching the net and other forums and found very little evidence of what material is best to use and also concerning what its made from. What I've read so far, people are using 3-6mil plastic sheet from a local hardware. I'm just not convinced of its durability from heat / and moisture and will tear like shredded paper over time.

I've also come across a plastic type material that feels soft and stretchy, almost like a latex feel to it. What is this material?

I've also seen people using sound deadening material, but for me I would guess that it will create much added weight and pressure to the door hinges. For the sound deadening I would apply small squares on he inner door compartment (inside of the outer skin)

then there is this stuff by Heatshield Products called DB Defender,

Looks good as it seals, molds and sound dampens the door.

Any Info and pics will help thanks
